Wellington Zine Fest Trip
After being a tight arse/ leaving flights until the minute I was on a flight from Auckland to Wellington at 6.40 in the morning and on my way to Wellington Zine fest. after a huge rush to get to the airport, (Jetstars 1hour checkin is a bit of a killer) but they didn’t seem to mind that I was 20minutes late. It was a relief to be on the plane.
I have been to the last three Auckland Zine fest.’s and I think I’m quiet the expert at attending these now. So I lugged 200 magazines around Wellington (I have the bruises to prove it) to Mighty Mighty on Cuba Street.
It was a great zine atmosphere, with lots of my favourites, Neighbourhood Cats, Oh Hi, Incredibly Hot Sex With Hideous People and I got to sit with Tessa and Damian which was awesome! With loads of new zines too!
I gave away over 100 zines and put some more around the shops. It was really cool to see all the political/ societal zines, The Spark, Daily Secretions and Occupy Wellington to name a few. Independent publishing is going strong!
The after party was at Happy, with live music and a free drink on arrival! Another painfully early flight home means I had around two to three hours sleeps, my 24 hours in Wellington was a whirlwind trip. I had a really great time, getting to know the zine community is always interesting and insightful which gives me lots of ideas for the next issue.
